What is an Air Sourced Hot Water Cylinder?

An Air Sourced Hot Water Cylinder is an unvented cylinder that uses a built-in air source heat pump as its primary heat source, rather than relying on an immersion heater (Direct Unvented) or a boiler coil (Indirect Unvented).

How does an Air Sourced Hot Water Cylinder work?

  • Air Intake and Heat Exchange: The system draws in air from outside your home, passing it through a heat exchanger that transfers the air's warmth to a refrigerant fluid.

  • Heat Transfer and Water Heating: The warmed refrigerant fluid is then compressed to increase its temperature, before flowing through a second heat exchanger inside the cylinder to heat the water stored in the tank.

  • Efficient Hot Water Supply: The heated water is now ready for use in your home, providing a reliable supply of hot water with reduced electricity consumption, thanks to the use of renewable energy from the air.
