Previously, the church faced challenges with an outdated and costly gas heating system connected to wet radiators in tall rooms.

This setup resulted in mounting expenses to keep the church warm during various activities. Using traditional radiators was ineffective for tall rooms since the heat would rise to the top of the building, leaving the occupants feeling cold and driving up heating expenses significantly.

To address this issue, the church sought the expertise of heating professionals who recommended a solution: transitioning to Far Infrared panels. These panels emit Infrared heat, which directly warms people and objects in the room rather than the air. By avoiding heating the air, this approach saves a substantial amount of energy. In tall rooms, the hot air would otherwise rise and become wasted in the high ceilings.

The environmental benefits of Far Infrared heating panels are twofold. First, they achieve over a 50% reduction in energy consumption required to maintain comfortable temperatures within the building. Second, the church now procures electricity from a green and renewable tariff, bolstering its environmental credentials. Moreover, the installation of these panels ensures minimal maintenance costs for at least the next 15 years. Some similar sites have even supplemented their electricity usage by installing solar PV systems, thereby feeding surplus energy back into the grid during the summer months and achieving overall carbon neutrality.

To efficiently control the new electric heating panels, the church turned to Genius Hub. This smart system not only enables zoned control of each room through a user-friendly app but also incorporates occupancy detection. With the help of occupancy sensors in each room, any zone can be set to activate only when the room is in use. This intelligent feature ensures that heating is automatically turned off when a room is vacant, providing peace of mind to the church's management and preventing wasted energy and excessive costs.
